My eldest brother was a guardsmen in the Georgia National Guard. Post 9/11 he became fulls active duty for years before joining the regulars. Meaning that he became a soldier of the United States Army in 2008 at 38. He's a paramedic as a civilian and a combat medic as a soldier. He tells me only about his best days. He's just been sent home to Hawaii this month with a neck injury. He's recovering well. One of his best day stories is his "little girl". She is a toddler of about 3 or 4 and her 13 year old sister is a translator that makes money translating for the villagers to the soldiers at the medical clinics that they have set up for the locals. The little girl wanders around the complex and finds my brother, who on this particular day had really hard times. The little girl boldly walked up to my brother who was resting on his cot in the shade outside the clinic and climbed onto the cot next to him. They sat there drawing pictures in the dust until the teen collected her. The photo he sent along with the story was that of a round faced cherub with large black eyes surrounded by thick lashes and a gummy grin as she reached for the camera. Until he returned his "little girl" would always find him and he would give her the sweets he collected from his MRI's.

no man I felt the drama in the story. nice paraphrasing BTW - that was certainly a bad day and puts to shame a civilian's idea of a bad day, right?
