maxiewawa on SellaBand.com
Found an interesting article in today's newspaper:
A new investment trend is turning up the volume for music fans. Bandstocks.com is a UK-based website where punters can invest in stocks to help bands showcased on the site raise enough cash to record their next album.
The article goes on to mention SellaBand.com, a similar site.
Here's the SellaBand story as I understand it: 'investors' hear a musician/band that they like, buy "stocks" in them, and when enough people buy enough stocks ($50 000 worth!), the musician/band records their album. 'Investors' get a limited edition copy of the album, and a cut of the profits. I've signed up as a musician. I'm not sure if I'll be hitting the 50 grand mark any time soon, but it can't hurt to try, right?
I'm also interested in making money (aren't we all) at this site, I realise that I'm not going to make a living out of it, but I'm sure one would get a kick out of investing in someone who ended up making you a profit. Kinda like gambling; you know you're not going to make any money but it's fun to just try and see if you do.
I'm still poking around the site to find out what it's all about, but have already created a profile and uploaded three tracks. I put up "Faridabad", "Fish On A Stick" and "Helmut". Here it is: http://www.sellaband.com/maxiewawa/
Like I said, I'm still nosing around at this site; I think that if you'd like to invest you'll need to sign up. Not sure if they take PayPal, but they probably do... everyone seems to at the moment, don't they.
Hopefully I'll get a bit of a clearer picture on what they're all about soon, and will be able to make an earnest pitch to everyone to try and get some of your hard earned money.

Helmut Bellingrodt
Original by Max Roberts.
Once again I've come up with the title of this tune by pressing "random article" on Wikipedia.
Tried to be a little arty with the video for this, not sure if you like it or not.
Thanks for listening, watching and favouriting as always! I'll be doing a request next! If you didn't know, I accept requests, just send me a PM or leave a comment requesting a song, and preferably a link to a video on YouTube. I'll do my best to do any style at all.

Ndugu Casting Call
Before I spent all those years in China, I was in a band called Ndugu. It was great, we'd get together often, not the weekly rehearsals that most bands do, but two or three times a week, and more.
Now that I hear the recordings we make it occurs to me that we were pretty good!
I'm not sure what the other two guys are doing now, but would really like to get Ndugu going again. The easiest way would probably be to give James and Luke a call and get them over, but have lost their phone numbers.
On the off chance someone knows who they are I've made this video and post.
The far more likely option is starting a new band!
So if you're a musician in Sydney and are interested in this kind of music, let me know. I play keyboard and bass, and I hope you can get some idea of what musical styles I'm into from this blog and YouTube channel.
Ta for watching.

Call your mother.
In a recent ChineseClass101.com lesson one of the characters suggests to the other that she should call her mother. I decided that this was as good a reason as any to show off my Chinese skills, and use the vocabulary shown in the dialogue in a real life situation.

Home! Floods!
We just walked in the door~!
We'd planned on returning Saturday, two days ago, but there have been floods all along the coast, and we were stuck in Coffs Harbour longer than we had expected. All a lot of fun though.
Thanks to Eldert, Rose, Marci and Michelle for having us, particularly for the extra nights!
Shan't go into too much detail, like I said, it's late (10:57 in fact); we were on the road for the best part of 12 hours!
Max On LanguageCast.net again
Here's another podcast that I recorded at Korea. It's in English this time, and is about motivation for learning languages.

I haven't been online for a while; I've had sore wrists.
Anyone who knows me will know how much bother my wrists give me, I went to the doctor last week and it's actually tendonitis. Caused by too much blogging/video making/musicking! So I've been taking it easy.
Off to Coffs Harbour to see the extended family this week, so I hope to be back to regular programming next week!
Testing Testing…
An original by Max Roberts.
My first musical video since arriving in Sydney! Exciting!
I just wanted to do something simple to start out with. I've got a lot of instruments and equipment that I haven't used in a long time, so this is just something to test that everything still works and I know how to use it.
For the record, I used a DIgi 002 rack to record everything on Pro Tools LE (not sure what version...
An SM57 to record everything acoustic...
The "family" are a Hofna acoustic guitar (that's not a spelling mistake), a GIbson Les Paul 100, Fender Jazz bass, Roland XP-30, and a Kawai upright piano. The Les Paul went through a Line 6 pocket pod.
"Footage" was shot on a casio stills digital camera (sorry, can't find it so not sure of the model) and put together on iMovie.

maxiewawa on TuDou!
Due to popular demand, and the fact that China bl0cks YouTube, I've put up my latest video on TuDou, the Chinese equivalent.
I'll put up each video on a Chinese video site from now on, so users in 中国大陆 can see them!
