Hot.

Aika and I spent last year in Shanghai, so we were in the Northern Hemisphere for their last summer (around July). In April of this year we left Shanghai for Sydney via Seoul. For those who don't know, it's freezing cold in Shanghai in December, and around April is when it starts to get warm. We arrived in Sydney just as it started getting chilly.

So we've gone for more than a year without a summer.

Sydney seems to be trying to make up for it though, it's absolutely scorching hot. It's so hot that you can almost see the heat. So hot that standing in the shade doesn't help. So hot that it radiates through your clothes and you can't walk without dragging your feet.

Old Chinese Beggar Sends Netizens Into a Dinging Frenzy

...A friend of mine loves eating tripe. He often drags me from place to place all over Harbin looking for Hui restaurants. We found a place on Jingwei road, with a small entrance and hygiene that would put some people off, but it had really authentic tripe. We ended up going there often to pig out...

Max’s Debut On ChinaSMACK

ChinaSMACK.com is a site that takes stories from the Chinese language internet and translates them into English. I've been a longtime reader.

They've had always had an ad on their site looking for volunteers; I've never thought to try but I did recently.

Fauna assigned me a story to translate, and it's been posted this morning! I translated it from a Chinese forum.

Be warned though, it's pretty horrific. I had a strange nightmare about it last night. And looking at it now, it's pretty disturbing.

Anyway, here it is. But be warned!

Don't worry, I don't think all of the posts I put up there will be so disturbing!

Ashfield

We've moved! Aika and I now live in Ashfield.

Ashfield is one of the most multicultural areas of Sydney. It's like being back in Shanghai! About 80% of the shops here are run by Mandarin speaking Chinese, and about 90% of THOSE are run by Shanghainese! So I still get the opportunity to speak a few words of Shanghainese whenever I go into a shop.
