Cody, my partner in the Take Control Campaign (more on it here and here) was slacking off on one of his assignments. He made a commitment to stop biting his nails, but wasn’t having much success. I, being the helpful friend that I am, told him to “pull his finger out” (as we say in Australia) and he’s gone a day without biting his nails. Well done!
Cody pointed out to me that I haven’t been honouring (honoring) my side of the bargain either. You might have noticed that I promised some material in Korean, but haven’t done so yet.
Well Cody, here you are. Cody suggested a paragraph in Korean, but that’s not really an option at my current level. Instead, I called up our Korean teacher Hyunwoo-sonsengnim and told him about Cody’s recent success in his anatomy exam.
In case you don’t realise, “ummm” and “ahhh” and “ahrr….” don’t actually mean anything in Korean, I’m just not that good yet.

I changed the dialogue of this Koreanclass101.com lesson by changing the punchline. I realise that not everyone reading will understand Korean, so here’s the English. If you don’t understand English, sorry!
A: Brother, what’s this?
B: This? A monkey.
A: Brother, what’s this?
B: This? A pig.
A: Brother, what’s this?
B: This? A puppy. Stop asking questions.
A: Alright.
A & B: Bon appetit!
“Bon appetit” is a French expression that we use before we eat (it’s originally French but we use it so often in English that most English speakers will understand). And “brother” is a translation of 형 which literally means “older brother” (of a younger brother) but doesn’t just apply to biological brothers.
I’m not sure that it’s clear from the English translation that A and B intend to eat all the animals that they are seeing (or even if it’s clear from our original Korean script) but I hope at least someone gets it.

HyunWoo was nice enough to help me out, and here’s take 2! I’ve taken out all the “um”s and “ahhh”s so it’s much shorter. Amazing how just a little bit of help can make such an improvement.
